At River City Rides, we understand the joy and adventure that comes from owning a recreational vehicle. Whether it’s a Class A Fleetwood or a cozy Airstream Interstate, RVs provide unforgettable experiences for families and friends. However, as time passes, many RV owners in Grand Rapids find that their travel plans have changed, leaving them with vehicles that are rarely used. Donating your RV could be an excellent way to free up space while supporting a great cause.
Our local community thrives on generosity, and the donations we receive play a vital role in enhancing the lives of those in need. Many of our donors appreciate the added benefit of reduced monthly storage fees, which can range from $150 to $300. Your RV donation not only provides financial support for River City Rides but also allows someone else to create new memories through travel.

How pickup works
Donating your RV or motorhome involves a straightforward pickup process designed to accommodate the unique logistics of these large vehicles. Typically, we utilize specialized RV transport flatbeds or drive-away services for safe and efficient transport. If you're unable to be on site, we'll coordinate with your RV park or storage facility to arrange the pickup. It's important to note that vehicle length and height do matter since many states have a maximum clearance requirement of 13'6”. We handle all the details so that your donation is seamless and hassle-free.
What drives donation value
The value of your RV donation is significantly influenced by the condition of its house systems, such as the roof, slides, plumbing, and air conditioning. Generally, these factors are valued more than the vehicle's drivetrain. Water damage can drastically reduce the vehicle's worth, making it crucial to disclose any previous issues. Keeping recent maintenance records can enhance your RV's value, especially during peak donation seasons in the spring. For classic RVs, obtaining an appraisal from a qualified appraiser is essential for IRS Form 8283 Section B to ensure you receive proper tax deductions.
Documentation you need
- Signed title of the RV
- Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) for off-road vehicles
- Recent service and maintenance records
- Appraisal for classic RVs
- Form 8283 for tax deduction purposes (if applicable)
Grand Rapids specifics
In Grand Rapids and throughout Michigan, RVs are typically titled vehicles, which means you'll need to provide a signed title upon donation. The state allows for a bill of sale in certain circumstances, but it's best to prepare the title to ensure a smooth transfer of ownership. Understanding your local DMV rules can save you time and confusion during the donation process, ensuring that your generous act benefits others without a hitch.
